NHAI is constructing the Dwarka Expressway to get rid of the traffic jam between Delhi and Gurugram. NHAI aims to start traffic in Haryana border by completing 19 km in two phases by November. According to the NHAI, it may take till May 2023 for the final completion of the two 10-km long phases running in the Delhi part. Earlier these too were to be opened by March 2023, but due to the tunnel construction being built in the Delhi part, there will be a slight delay in completing the project.
The 29 km long Dwarka Expressway is important in many ways. With this, vehicles going towards Jaipur will be able to go straight on NH-8 by catching the expressway near Shiv Murti without getting stuck in the jam. Once the expressway is ready, vehicles will not need to go inside Gurugram. Vehicles will be able to run at a speed of 100 to 120 kms on the expressway. NHAI is building the country's first urban tunnel to prepare this expressway.

The total length of the tunnel being built in the border of Delhi is 3.6 km. NHAI officials say that special types of machines are being used to make the tunnel, due to which it will take time to complete the tunnel. Therefore, the project will be completed only next year, but before that there is an attempt to open 19 km long expressway in Haryana's part for traffic by November this year.
NHAI is carrying out several technological experiments on the Dwarka Expressway. This will be the first expressway in the country with the longest eight-lane elevated road length. Till now, most of the elevated roads in the country are of six lanes. The total length of the expressway is 29 km, of which 23 km will be elevated. Urban tunnel and elevated road will be there in most part of Delhi. In Haryana also, about 80 to 90 percent of the area will be elevated.

After the completion of this tunnel, NHAI will work towards making tunnels in other cities of the country as well. Because in some cities there is no condition of widening of roads and there is heavy jam on the main roads. Therefore, after the construction of the tunnel of Dwarka Expressway, work will be done on building an urban tunnel to get rid of the problem of jam in the rest of the country. With this, the traffic inside the city will be able to directly exit the city through the tunnel.
